Kidney Cancer Patient Day in Scotland Wednesday 5th of October

Kidney Cancer Patient Days

Following the success of the Fund’s Kidney Cancer Patient Days in 2009 and 2010, the programme has been extended to several patient days in 2011.

Earlier this year, the Fund organised three very successful kidney cancer patient days in Cardiff, Swansea and Manchester. Our next one is near Glasgow:

• Wednesday 5 October at the Westerwood Hotel and Golf resort, Cumbernauld.
Join us at our next Patient Day in Scotland on Wednesday 5th October. Chaired by Mr Michael Aitchison, Consultant Urological Surgeon at Gartnaval General Hospital, Glasgow with presentations on novel treatments for kidney cancer, kidney cancer surgery, the role of the clinical nurse specialist, and patient support from some of Scotland’s leading kidney cancer specialists. This promises to be a very interesting and exciting day and we sincerely hope you can join us.

Registration via a free eticket can be found here -

A registration form for the Scottish event can be found here -

• Tuesday 15 November in South East England (venue to be announced)

Kidney Cancer Patient Day, Manchester 15 June 2011
Post event comments:-

Professor Robert Hawkins, Cancer Research UK Professor and Director of Medical Oncology at the University of Manchester and the Christie Hospital NHS Trust, chaired the day attended by over 70 patients

A warm thank you to all who attended the Kidney Cancer Patient Day in Manchester last Wednesday, 15th June.

The day was a tremendous success with a fantastic attendance and the feedback from patients and carers was very positive. It was lovely to meet so many patients and their families or carers.

It was wonderful to receive the comments about how informative the presentations were, how nice it was to speak to other patients and carers, and how comforting it is to know that you are not alone – to quote just a few!

A big thank you to all the speakers, especially Professor Robert Hawkins and his team, for the very helpful and interesting talks they gave. Feedback from patients and carers was that they found the talks very useful and they gained a lot from attending the meeting.

These patient days are so important to patients and without the support of the team at the James Whale Fund this day would not have been possible.

The James Whale Fund will be organising their next patient day on Wednesday 5th October in Scotland (venue to be announced), so please keep this date in your diary!

If you have any questions left over from patient day or would like to find out more about the work that we do, then please do not hesitate to contact the patient support team on:

Or you can call us via the Kidney Cancer CareLine on: 0330 111 2 333

A collection of photos taken at the Manchester Patient Day can be found here.

Our medical publications officer, Sharon Deveson Kell has written a report on the patient day. (this is quite a large PDF document and will take a little time to download)

Other Patient Days

If you have been unable to attend Patient Days held already this year we are holding two further events this year:

Wednesday 5 October in Cumbernauld, Scotland .

Tuesday 15 November in the South East (venue to be announced).

The format and content of each Patient Day will be similar, but with different speakers.

We look forward to welcoming you to one of our Patient Days this year!
